TECH37 TOURS CHICAGO LANDMARKS
Tech Tours was an ambitious program created by Jerry Pittman and funded by AfterSchool Matters Tech37
This Program included computer training, web design, digital photography, Introduction to Adobe photoshop and touring the City of Chicago famous and not so famous places. The Program was run by designer Jerry Pittman, with assistant Sharmaine Singleton.
The Schools involved with tech tours were Robeson High and Lindblom High. The program lasted 3 years.
Creative differences and changes in staff were among the factors which ended this program. Each year funding was reduced and creativity was hampered.
The one thing that sealed the end of the program was the last assignment at Robeson High. The profanity was horrible and it was coming from the staff directed towards the students.
These actions were reported but never acted on.
I came to the conclusion that the faculty was responsible for the negative attitude that existed in that particular school.
It was embarrassing to listen the staff blurt out profanity at the students and the students had become preconditioned to accept it as normal behavior.
When reassigned to Robeson for another program, I decided to move on and that was the end of After School Matters Tech Tours
Working with After School Matters Showed me that Its the adults as much as it is the Youth that need instruction in how to behave in public.
Bad teachers, and staff only serve to break our children down to their level.
I suggest that all parents take time to visit their child's school and observe the staff interaction with the students. It could be an eye opening experience.

A visit to Navy pier added these images
Below is a collage from Tech37's tour of the Chicago Museum of Natural History
The moving of the captured German submarine U505 to an under ground tomb was a major event in the history of the Museum which began its existence as the Fine Arts Building, part of the Columbian Exposition
There is both a natural and unnatural beauty to Chicago's Lake front. These images capture a unique point of View of Chicago.
The lake front and Navy pier. Many students had never visited the Lake front and most found the experience memorable . We were already planning our next trip to the Famous Original Gold coast 18th and Prairie.
We had to be quick. Developers had already targeted the area for a major redevelopment.
