IT'S BEEN ALMOST 40 YEARS SINCE THE OPENING OF THE DAN RYAN EL, LITTLE KNOWN TO MOST OF US IT WAS NEVER COMPLETED. Chicago extends beyond 95th street, so why did the EL end it at 95th street? The CTA is a fat cow that milks everybody whether you ride it or not. We continually pay for service we are not getting. The more money the city gives the CTA the less efficient it becomes. Like Jabba the Hut, It just lays there getting fat off our taxes waiting for us to fix what ever is wrong with it..

Registration for the walk-a-thon began at 8:00 am. The Step off time was set at 9:00 am. The Developing Communities Project had its supporters and their families join in as they walked from their main office at 95th and Indiana to 130th and Stony Island, the proposed end of the red line.

It was a very hot day and water was passed out to the supporters prior to the march.

Among the supporters who endured the heat were State Representative 28 District, Robert A. Rita. Representative Rita was also present at the recent Cease Fire march against violence in the 34th ward.

It was a good day for a march. Everyone started out in good spirits. Developing Communities has the right idea. We have to organize and become pro-active to get things done in our communities. They are uniting both the young and seniors to address problems that effects us all. We can all take a lesson from that. The message is we need each other. Together we can get things done.

The group marched clear out of their ward into ours. Trying to alert community residents about political decisions that can effect our everyday lives. The Developing Communities project asked for money and support to aid in their cause of bringing awareness to the people of our communities. And to support a pro-active effort on the part of the residents. We cannot continue to stand by idle, It has only hurt us, we must unite and speak out on issues that concern us.

Developing community project is crossing bridges to a brighter future. It is a powerful sight when people unite for a common cause. This is the firsts step in getting respect. Organizing. The second is voting. The third is voting independent . NO more voting blind democrat , Thats what got us where we are today. No power and no respect. We all have a wake up call in the coming elections.

Lines are clearly being drawn. Our elected officials are either with us or against us. The upcoming elections will not be so forgiving. The mayor will be hanging on by the skin of his teeth. The 34th ward will see a new Alderman. People are tired of the treatment we have been receiving from our elected officials. Tired of being ignored and taken for granted. Tired of poor city services. Angry about the lack of jobs and using our community as a dumping ground for sex offenders. 2006 and 2007 will see a new consciousness in the Black community.
The CTA has a long and jaded history, It has been around in one form or another since the birth of the city, The elevated train was the brain child of a steel merchant back in the late 1800s. The Columbian Exposition of 1893 brought the elevated train south. By whO looks at the history of the EL in CTA
