South Marquette road and Cornell drive. The entrance stems from 69th & Stoney Island. This view of Hyde Park in the background from South. The Jackson Park rebirth begins at Shore.

This old structure may or may not survive the reconstruction efforts. Its original purpose has been lost in time. No longer a fuctioning part of the landscape. It does offer a certian cultural identity to the area. A reflection of a time when art and architecture combined in a way that dominated the presence of Chicago structures.

Under passes have replaced the over passes across Lake Shore drive. They are a good idea in good weather, however they are low lying and could possibly flood after heavy rains or snow.

Structures like this beg for an explanation. Who designed these buildings and at what cost and why. Also why were they allowed to deteriorate. Only the Park district may know for sure. They have become unofficial urinals and waste baskets. They could really be beautiful again.

Lake shore Drive is getting a face lift too. It looks as if it might have during the construction of the the Museum of Science and Industry.

Originally called the Fine Arts Museum, It is the only Original exhibit structure still standing from the Chicago worlds fair of 1893. It too came close to being razed in 1910 after it had been abandoned and allowed to deteriorate. The 1933 Worlds fair gave it new life

Right around 31st street Jackson park begins to give way to the north side of the city and Grant park

The U505 has been moved and placed in an undergound crypt.
Directly across the street from the Museum of Science and industry sits an early classic high rise building. the Map shows the area around the museum and wooded Ilse. It appears that the wooded ilse south bridge has been eliminated in this map. A sign of things to come?
